Bonus talk

We heard Executive Partner Bob Sheehan tell us a few weeks ago -- at what was probably the best attended Attorney Lunch in firm history -- that the firm's business is strong and that billable hours are essentially the same compared to the same period last year.

If billable hours are roughly the same as last year, does that mean that bonuses will be about the same too?

I heard the vending machines are going to be half price for anyone working after 8 pm on Saturday nights.

Big lo firms must be now looking at each other. Each firm is waiting for the others to start anouncing bonuses but does not want to be the first...

But it will change quickly now. I have heard Sullivan just anounced bonusses which are surprisingly 10%higher than last year. Just incredible

Hey Insider! I guess the talk should turn not from how big the bonus is going to be (if there is one) but rather, will we have jobs come 2009. When law firms start posting cuts to the legal staff as noted in the TIMES on 11/12, Skadden usually isn't far behind.

I think it's f**ked up that associates got huge bonuses while the secretaries are losing their jobs!
